School’s in session for Barron Trump, the sole child of Donald and Melania Trump.
The class of 2024 high school graduate picked a college in New York, with fall 2024 classes for most universities there starting Sept. 3, the day after Labor Day.
Donald Trump confirmed in an Aug. 20 New York Post story the location but not the specific college that Barron Trump is attending: “He’s all set in a certain school that’s very good,” the former president told the New York Post in an exclusive interview. “He’s always been a very good student, he’s smart.”
The former president said his team would release the name of the university “soon.” Here are 10 things to know about Barron Trump as the 18-year-old starts college life.
Barron Trump is bilingual. Barron speaks English and Slovenian
Barron Trump is bilingual and can speak English and Slovenian. A video of him as a boy speaking with a Slovenian accent went viral after it was reposted Aug. 15, 2024. In the video, Barron Trump says, “I like my suitcase,” emphasizing suit, then picks it up as he talks about going to school. Melania Trump agrees and is heard telling Barron Trump that first he will “have lunch” (in her Slovenian accent, “lunch” sounds like “launch”). In the clip, Barron Trump then takes advice from his father, who says he expects all A’s, no cigarettes, no alcohol and no tattoos.
According to a People magazine story, Melania Trump said as a little boy, Barron Trump often called his grandmother and spoke to her exclusively in Slovenian.
When Melania Trump celebrated her first Mother’s Day in the U.S. as a new mom on May 14, 2006, following the birth of Barron Trump on March 20 of that year, she and their otrok, the Slovenian word for “baby,” spent the day with her mami and daddy, (the late) Amalia Knavs and Viktor Knavs, according to an archive interview with Donald and Melania Trump in the Palm Beach Daily News. In Slovenia, Mother’s Day is celebrated March 8.
The youngest son of Donald and Melania Trump has largely been kept out of the spotlight, likely due to his mother. But that didn’t stop the former first lady from sharing precious moments about motherhood and more on her social network. On X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Melania Trump tweeted several photos of Barron Trump as a little boy, often tagging him @barrontrump. However, that account on X follows only one account (hers) and has more than 22,700 followers as of Sept. 3, 2024. There is no profile photo, no cover photo, no tweets and no bio — only the social handle and the date “@barrontrump” joined the platform (August 2012, when Barron Trump was 6 years old).
Barron Trump is not on social media, but every other Trump family member is
From former president Donald Trump to his third wife (and Barron Trump’s mother) Melania Trump, to his adult children and their significant others — Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump — each has a presence on various social media platforms. But there is no official Barron Trump account on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch, Discord or YouTube.
When he was president, Donald Trump frequently used Twitter to reach the public — until he was removed from the social platform following his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. He later introduced his social media platform Truth Social, then was reinstated on Twitter (now renamed X) when Elon Musk bought the company.
There are several photos and references to Barron Trump on his family’s social media accounts, from birthday wishes to #TBT and #FBF (social media speak for “throwback Thursday” and “flashback Friday,” respectively).
While the Palm Beach Post can’t confirm, when people Google “Barron Trump’s height,” search results show he is now 6 feet, 9 inches tall. But during the 18-year-old’s graduation in May 2024 from Oxbridge Academy in suburban West Palm Beach, he was 6-foot, 7-inches tall, according to multiple reports.
While most men stop growing at 18, after puberty, some may continue to grow into their early 20s.
Even at 6-foot-7, Barron Trump was the tallest of the Trump siblings, and rises above his father, who is listed as 6 feet 3 inches, although some reports say he’s actually 6-foot-2. His mother, former model Melania Trump, is 5-foot-11. Among his half-brothers, Eric Trump is 6-5, and Donald Trump Jr. is 6-1.
Barron Trump seemed to be as tall if not taller than his mother, Melania Trump, by 2017, when he was 11 years old. Some photos in 2017 and 2018 show the pair walking side by side, almost eye to eye, and she in high heels.
Photos of Donald Trump’s youngest child show him to be as tall if not taller than his father by 2018.
Barron Trump’s height is a hot topic. Height is a big deal for this other celebrity kid
Barron Trump’s not the only celebrity child with headlines about height: Blue Ivy Carter, daughter of Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z Carter, sparked media chatter in February 2024 when she appeared at the Grammy Awards and stood alongside her famous parents. Dad Jay-Z is reportedly 6-foot, 2-inches tall. Blue Ivy Carter is 12 years old.
Barron Trump played a lot of sports as a kid
In the past, the former president’s son has played golf at his father’s famous golf courses, soccer, baseball and basketball.
When he was a child, Barron Trump played team sports and had a supportive cheerleader in his mom, Melania Trump. She often tweeted photos of a young Barron Trump in a uniform or hitting the links with his father at various Trump golf clubs.
It’s not clear if Barron Trump played any varsity sports at Oxbridge Academy as he wasn’t listed on any rosters, but he loves soccer, according to his father and various reports. According to Bleacher Report, when Barron Trump was 11 in 2017, he played for the D.C. United U-12 soccer team. He was a midfielder wearing No. 81. D.C. United is part of Major League Soccer.
Though there is an age difference, Barron Trump seems close to his half-siblings. Over the years, Donald Trump’s children have been active in his presidency and campaigns.
- Donald Trump Jr., born to Donald Trump and his first wife Ivana Trump, is 28 years older than Barron Trump.
- Ivanka Trump, born to Donald and Ivana Trump, is 24 years older than Barron Trump.
- Eric Trump, born to Donald and Ivana Trump, is 22 years older than Barron Trump.
- Tiffany Trump, born to Donald Trump and his second wife, Marla Maples, is 13 years older than Barron Trump.
After Donald Trump relocated with Melania and Barron to Palm Beach, Florida, in 2019, his adult children and their families followed suit. Tiffany Trump has posted photos and sweet messages on her Instagram account about her younger brother.
Which New York university does Barron Trump attend? His 17-year-old half-niece Kai Trump chose a Florida college
Barron Trump’s half-niece, 17-year-old Kai Trump, who’s a year younger than him, made her political campaign appearance debut at the 2024 Republican National Convention. Weeks later, Kai Trump (publicly) announced her college choice: the University of Miami, not far from where she goes to high school now.
Kai Madison Trump is the oldest child of Donald Trump Jr. and former model Vanessa Kay Trump, formerly Vanessa Kay Pergolizzi. She is the oldest of Donald Trump’s 10 grandchildren and the oldest child of Donald Trump Jr.’s five children. She celebrated her 17th birthday May 12, 2024.
Sorry, UPenn and Georgetown: Barron Trump picks a college in New York, bucking Trump family tradition
Barron Trump will not attend the University of Pennsylvania or Georgetown University, which have strong ties to the Trump family. Donald Trump and his other children — Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump — have attended or graduated from the prestigious universities in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., respectively.
With Barron Trump attending a college in New York, it is notable that he is breaking away from family tradition. Which New York colleges is he attending? Possibilities include New York University, which is close to Trump Tower in Manhattan, where Barron Trump spent his childhood, Cornell University and Columbia University.
Melania Trump calls New York ‘home‘ as Barron Trump starts college there. Will Melania follow Barron Trump?
Will Melania Trump follow her only son, Barron Trump, to college? It’s what a lot of “empty-nester” parents fantasize about. With the extreme attention on the former president’s youngest son coupled with the former first lady’s fierce protectiveness of Barron Trump, it’s not an unreasonable question.
In the past, Melania Trump chose to live separately from her husband, for a short while. When Donald Trump started his presidency in 2017, Melania Trump and Barron Trump stayed in New York for several months so Barron could finish school. According to a People magazine story, an unnamed source said Melania Trump would likely go wherever Barron Trump goes.
On the social media platform X, Melania Trump posted a photo of the New York City skyline on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, and mentioned how she feels about the iconic destination: “New York City captivated my heart the moment I arrived, 28 years ago today. This electrifying town isn’t just my home; it’s a colorful canvas where dreams come alive. New York’s iconic skyline and vibrant culture inspire me every day.” That was about the same week Barron Trump and other college freshmen start fall 2024 classes with student orientation, college “move-in” weekends, etc.
It’s a rare public statement from the former model married to former president Donald Trump, who is busy campaigning for Election Day (Nov. 5, 2024), against his Democratic challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris. As the 2024 Republican presidential candidate travels the country for rallies and speeches, Melania Trump has been noticeably absent. It’s contrary to the 2016 and 2020 elections, when she made several public appearances alongside her husband.
Presumably, Melania Trump is preparing Barron Trump, her only son with Donald Trump, for college life in New York, her “home,” following his graduation and life in Florida.
