BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – It was just another normal morning for Heather Smith, a local business owner on Coursey Boulevard in Baton Rouge.
”I was like what’s going on? Just thought it was a wreck or something,” said Smith. “But when I pulled up closer to my shop and I saw the yellow tape I was like, oh no. What happened.”
Not long before arriving at her store, a man opening shop at the coffee bean cafe just across the street was shot in an attempted robbery around 6:30 this morning.

”We had some good samaritans that were stopping by and stayed to administer aid,” said Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse. “They stuck around and let us interview them. We also have a lot of video surveillance that we’re combing through right now. We’re hoping we’ll be able to get a solution and solve this quite quickly.”
Morse detailed the condition of the victim shortly after the incident.
“He was transported to a hospital and what we’re hearing right now he’s in stable condition.”
Smith is concerned her business was also on the assailant’s radar, learning today that surveillance video shows the shooter’s car in the parking lot of her business — just before the crime was committed.
”It’s too close of course,” commented Smith. “I don’t know if they were just looking at that spot or other businesses on our strip as well.”
More details are still to be released.
