The Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival will be taking place at the end of October in Banff National Park. The category shortlist for the book festival portion of the event was just released.
“We are pleased to announce the long list of category finalists alphabetically by title in each award category,” a press release from the Banff festival said. There were dozens of books submitted to this year’s festival. The jury this year includes Marni Jackson, Gloria Dickie and Anthony Whittome.
With only six places available for finalists in the Mountain Literature category, we thought we’d share a few other books that could just have easily made the list: Survival Not Assured by Geoff Powter; Avalanche Dreams – A Memoir of Skiing, Climbing, and Life by Lou Dawson; Behind Everest: Ruth Mallory’s Story by Kate Nicholson; and Dreams of Lost Buttresses by Heather Dawson.
For tickets to the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival visit here. There will be several well-known climbers at this year’s fest, including Dawa Yangzum Sherpa, Bronwyn Hodgins, Beth Rodden, Barry Blanchard and more. It’s always one of the best climbing events of the year.
