Spoiler Alert
Who had kidnapped Julia?
Julia was a political journalist who had a keen interest in covering issues that were underreported on globally. She traveled to Venezuela to understand the reason behind the nation’s economic collapse. Julia interviewed Mr. Torres, who had detailed knowledge about how the system functioned. He discussed on camera how the American government was responsible for the tragic condition of his people. The discovery of crude oil has been the root of exploitation, and after the sanctions put in place by the US government in 2017, things only got worse. The production and export of oil had increased. According to Torres, the US government was still operating in Venezuela, but through a private contracting group. They had partnered with Keystone Oil, a North American company, and at the end of the day, the crude oil found its way to the United States. The US private contracting group was run by General Roman, and the government official in Washington who connected the private contracting group and Keystone Oil was Senator Olivia Peterson. The revelation left Julia shaken; she had never assumed that her mother could be involved in the corruption scandal.
Soon after the interview, Julia was kidnapped, and Olivia knew that Roman was behind it. They were aware of the damage that the video could cause, and deleting it was the only option. After Olivia learned about her daughter’s kidnapping, she approached her brother-in-law, Gunner, a retired special forces soldier who immediately agreed to commit himself to the mission when he learned that his niece was the victim. Gunner’s friends Matty and West agreed to join him on the mission, and since their friend Danny couldn’t tag along, they asked his son, Davey, to be their tech expert, and he happily agreed.
Gunner and Roman shared a bitter history in Kandahar and facing him once again was quite the challenge for Gunner. Naturally, Olivia blamed herself for the situation her daughter was in. She was the one who had handed Roman and Moreau the responsibility of setting up a private contracting group in Venezuela before the 2017 sanctions to ensure that the United States continued to have a strong presence, and the oil business remained under their control. Julia had videos and documents incriminating all those involved in the illegal trade. Olivia was confident that her daughter would not comply, and that even if she did, Roman would kill her regardless.
Was the incriminating video retrieved?
Gunner and his team made it to Venezuela, and they met their local expert and Gunner’s friend, Guapo. They had worked together on a mission in Caracas, and Gunner was ever grateful to him for helping him out then. Guapo updated Gunner about the situation there, and it was evident that Roman had become desperate, and anyone who remotely threatened their arrangement was killed. Julia was supposed to have been taken to the Keystone Black site, and Gunner and his team planned on reaching there before she was harmed. Roman and Moreau continued to threaten Julia in the hopes that she would grant them access to the video she recorded. When she refused, one of her teammates was shot in front of her. Julia quivered in fear when Moreau threatened to kill more and more people if she failed to grant him access. She could not have people die for her big exposé, so she decided to hand them the video.
Gunner and his team made it to the site, but due to high security, they could not break in immediately. They came up with a strategy to make entry, and Gunner finally reached the spot where Julia was locked up. She refused to leave unless Gunner promised to release the other prisoners. Gunner knew rescuing many people at the same time was high risk, but he did not have much of a choice. He had to bring home Julia, and he was ready to take his chances. What followed was a long hike to help the rescued villagers find their way home. Davey was impressed with the work Julia had set out to do. When he learned that the video Julia had recorded was deleted, he started to think of a plan to recover it. Meanwhile, after the prisoners were brought back to their village, an ex-soldier offered to help them find a way out of the country. He told them he had a cousin who had a boat near Caracas, and with his help, they could leave via the ocean. He offered them a ride in his van. As soon as Gunner and his team left, Roman arrived at the village and threatened to kill them if they failed to reveal where Gunner and his men were. Meanwhile, using his tech expertise, Davey managed to find the interview Julia had deleted. The last bit of the video could prove to the world how Roman and his men mercilessly killed anyone who endangered their operation in Venezuela.
Did Gunner and Julia make it back to the United States?
Gunner and his men decided to rest the night before heading to the boat. As was expected, they woke up to a grenade going off. Roman’s men had infiltrated the motel, and while Gunner, Julia, West, and Davey successfully managed to escape, Matty was captured. They tortured Matty to find out where Gunner and the rest were heading, but Matty refused to offer them any help. To infuriate them, Matty mentioned that Gunner and Julia still had the video, and their corrupt operation would be exposed to the world. Matty was burned alive, but he died with honor.
During Long Gone Heroes’ ending, Gunner and Roman finally stood face-to-face. While Guapo assisted Julia and the rest to find their way to the boat, Gunner wanted to deal with the man responsible for the chaos. Their bitter history added to the tension, as it turned out Gunner had previously protested against Roman’s crooked ways, but in return, he was shot three times. Roman was disappointed that Gunner had not learned his lesson, and he was confident that this time Gunner would have no chance to escape. He had no idea that it was Gunner who had brought him to the spot and already had an upper hand. The two got into a fistfight that ended with Gunner choking Roman. Gunner made it out of the church alive, and it did not take him a minute to take down Roman’s men, who had surrounded the spot.
Meanwhile, Guapo was shot by Moreau’s men, but he ensured that Julia and the rest made their way to the boat. During the confrontation with Moreau and his men, Davey managed to shoot Moreau, and the man who had once threatened Julia collapsed to the ground, unable to move. Julia walked up to him and shot him. She finally experienced a sense of justice. Gunner, Julia, Davey, and West made it to the boat, and they got home safely.
How did Senator Olivia deal with the crisis?
Julia decided not to hand over the video recording to the press immediately after reaching home. She offered her mother the choice to either come clean by herself or she would expose her as she had initially planned. Olivia was glad to have her daughter home, and the kidnapping helped her realize that there could be nothing more important than her family.
In Long Gone Heroes’ ending, Olivia decided to tell the truth to the world and hand over every document Julia possessed to the court of law. Olivia did not fear facing the repercussions of her actions, because no matter what, she had her daughter by her side, and there was no greater joy than that. Julia had taken a great risk; she’d prioritized truth over family. She stayed honest about her endeavor till the very end, and that goes to show that she will continue to be brilliant at her job. We hope Julia and Gunner will get to spend more time together and understand each other better.
