Never Let Go—a horror thriller starring Halle Berry—is new in theaters Friday. When will it be available to stream at home?
Directed by The Hills Have Eyes and Crawl filmmaker Alexandre Aja, Never Let Go stars Berry as a mother protecting her two young sons (Anthony B. Jenkins and Percy Daggs IV) in a cabin deep in the woods after an apocalyptic event.
Per the logline for Never Let Go, the family needs to “stay connected at all times–even tethering themselves with ropes–they cling to one another, urging each other to never let go. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival.”
Right now, the only way to see Never Let Go is in theaters, so check your local listings for showtimes.
Like every major theatrical release, the first place you viewers will be able to see Never Let Go at home is on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
For Lionsgate releases, the window from the date the studio’s film opens in theaters to its PVOD debut is typically a month. PVOD releases are typically available for purchase or rental on such digital outlets as Prime Video, AppleTV+ and VUDU.
Like many feature films, the time it will take Never Let Go to hit PVOD depends on how financially successful the film is in theaters. The studio for Never Let Go—Lionsgate, has had a rough couple of months at the box office with their releases Borderlands and The Crow and as such, both films made a quick trek to PVOD.
Borderlands, which opened on August 9, debuted on PVOD 21 days later on August 30. The PVOD release pattern for The Crow was also 21 days, since it debuted on digital streaming on September 13 after opening in theaters on August 23.
Never Let Go, per Deadline, appears to be headed toward an opening weekend of $4 million to $7 million at the domestic box office against a $20 million production budget before prints and advertising.
Given that dim forecast, Never Let Go could follow the same 21-day PVOD release pattern. If that’s the case, fans can expect Never Let Go to hit digital streaming on either October 11 or October 15, since new PVOD titles typically come out on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Wait For ‘Never Let Go’ On SVOD Will Be Much Longer
Per a deal with Lionsgate, STARZ will be the first streaming service that will offer Never Let Go on streaming video on demand. You will have to be a STARZ subscriber to the film on the platform.
Generally, there is a 180-day window between the time Lionsgate releases its films in theaters and when it makes its SVOD debut on STARZ.
For example, the Lionsgate family drama Ordinary Angels—starring Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson—opened in theaters on February 23 but didn’t start streaming on STARZ until August 21.
The Lionsgate horror movie Imaginary followed the same SVOD release pattern, as the film opened in theaters on March 8 and debuted on STARZ on September 4.
Given those two examples, viewers likely won’t be able to see Never Let Go on STARZ until sometime around March 21, 2025.
Rated R, Never Let Go opens in theaters nationwide on Friday.
