Next time you take a Royal Caribbean cruise, you might want to leave these particular travel gadgets at home.
Royal Caribbean quietly added power strips, multi-plug outlets and surge protectors to its “banned items” list.
The cruise line decided to prohibit the use of the travel necessities in its ship state rooms on older vessels that aren’t equipped to handle multiple outlets to charge more than a few devices at a time.
If overloaded, the power strips and extension cords could cause electrical damage or a fire risk.
However, it is unclear whether or not Royal Caribbean is enforcing this latest rule despite the buzz this change has been generating on the internet.
Frequent travelers and large families many find the ban difficult to adjust to. Many older ships don’t have multiple outlets or USB ports in a cabin and are limited to one American-style outlet and one European-style outlet, according to The Street.
Although many newer cruise ships have more outlets and charging ports available, the ban may come as an inconvenience to travelers who bring along important travel devices, like phones, electric razors, cameras, tablets, e-readers, blow dryers and portable chargers.
