The owner of an iconic West Chester Township ice cream shop says he is retiring and will be selling the business.A post on The Cone’s website says that their last official day of the 2024 summer season will be Sept. 29, with what the business is calling an “overstock week” planned afterward. However, if a new owner has not been found before next season, current owner Keith Wren signaled an openness on Facebook to “continue to operate, as usual, until we find a buyer.”The business started as K&W Creamy Whip in 1973 in the Lockland-Reading area before moving to its current West Chester location in 1995. Keith Wren’s parents, Ken and Loella, founded the business.The business’ exterior is well-known in the community for its distinctive ice cream cone shape.”We have been truly blessed with many friends over the years, smiling faces, and joy of knowing that creating quality ice cream is well worth it,” said Wren in a Facebook post announcing his intent to sell the business. The post continued, “We appreciate all of the support over the years and loved being able to serve such amazing customers! We also couldn’t have done any of this without our amazing Cone Family from the past 30 years. We appreciate you all!”The Wren family says that they are specifically seeking buyers who will continue The Cone’s legacy by continuing to serve the Wren family’s recipes. They also say that they hope the new owners will continue to pursue future growth opportunities within the tri-state area.
