Travel Ticket Sales Hit KD 244 Million in Kuwait During 2024
Recent data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) highlights that ticket sales in Kuwait soared to KD 244 million (approximately USD 797.6 million) in the first eight months of 2024, reflecting a significant increase in travel activities. Over 2.3 million tickets were issued during this period, excluding seasonal and low-cost flights, according to Mohammad Al-Mutairi, the chief of the Kuwait Travel and Tourism Agencies Association.
Notable Increase in Travel
The statistics indicate that 1.7 million tickets were issued from January to June 2024, with the highest sales recorded in May at 348,800 tickets. Ticket sales peaked in May, generating KD 38 million, followed by June with KD 33 million, and January with KD 30.6 million.
This surge reflects the post-summer travel boom, with travelers returning from vacations. The aviation industry in Kuwait is experiencing a robust recovery, with around 591 authorized travel agencies operating, representing 6.25% of the total number in the MENA region.
Efforts to Enhance Travel Services
Kuwait’s aviation sector is working on improving services to handle the rising travel demand. Kuwait Airways has been praised for its punctuality and efforts to minimize wait times, offering services like baggage check-in 12 hours before flights to avoid congestion. Additionally, 85 airlines currently operate at Kuwait International Airport, supporting the increased passenger volume.
