South Australia Business Minister Andrea Michaels has ordered a cultural review into the state’s business and regulator Consumer and Business Services (CBS).
The review was prompted by allegations former boss Dini Soulio had overseen a “toxic” culture at the agency.
Commissioner for Public Sector Employment Erma Ranieri will oversee the review. It will be conducted by independent consultant Rosslyn Cox using existing agency resources.
Michaels said she had requested the view in light of this to ensure the wellbeing of staff.
“My priority is to ensure CBS is best placed to continue to deliver for South Australians, protecting their consumer rights and ensuring businesses are complying with the law,”she said.
“While this review is underway, CBS will continue doing this good work for South Australians.
“In the past week, CBS undertook more raids at illegal tobacco shops. CBS has seized more than $700,000 worth of illicit tobacco and vapes since July 1.”
Soulio has been suspended from his current role leading Super SA while Treasury investigates allegations he sexually harassed staff at CBS.
South Australian under-treasurer Rick Persse has confirmed he is overseeing this investigation.
In a statement, Soulio said he would cooperate with all investigations.
“I will cooperate with any investigation that the department undertakes,” he said.
“It would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this time.”
Martyn Campbell, who replaced Soulio at CBS in June resigned from the embattled agency earlier this month to take a job in the private sector.
Patrick McAvaney will act as head of SA Super while Soulio is under investigation.
