Bruce Springsteen was born in the U.S.A., and he isn’t leaving.
The false proposition that is Springsteen is leaving the United States if Donald Trump is elected president next month is starting to pop up again on social media, seemingly triggered by the Boss’ Oct. 3 endorsement of Kamala Harris.
“I can’t wait to see him pack his bags and leave the country after Trump wins the election next month,” stated an X post by Steven H. Asness, @StevenHAsness, on Oct 3.
“Springsteen has promised to leave USA when Trump wins. Will Obama also make that generous promise?” stated Alexandra Occasionally-Cognitive, @Truth_Sayer75, on Oct. 5.
The theme arose from a July 11 post that stated “Bruce Springsteen announces he will leave the United States if Donald Trump is elected President in 2024! Thoughts?” without attribution or confirming video.

In October of 2020, Springsteen, seemingly joking, said “If Trump is reelected — which he will not be; I’m predicting right now he’s gonna lose — if by some happenstance he should be, I’ll see you on the next plane,” according to the Daily Telegraph of Australia.
Trump responded a few days later at a Georgia campaign rally by joking he’d “leave the country” if he didn’t win the 2020 election, according to the Daily Mail.

“Could you imagine if I lose? My whole life, what am I going to do?” Trump said. “I’m going to say ‘I lost to the worst candidate (President Joe Biden) in the history of politics.’ I’m not going to feel so good.”
Springsteen called his vote one of “the most precious possessions that I have” while sitting at the counter of Roberto’s Freehold Grill in the video of his Harris endorsement.
“America’s the most powerful nation on earth,” Springsteen said. “Not just because of her overwhelming military strength or economic power, but because of what she stands for, what she means, what she believes in: freedom, social justice, equal opportunity, the right to be and love who you want.
“These are the things that make America great.
“Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for President in my lifetime. His disdain for the sanctity of our constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law, and the sanctity of the peaceful transfer of power should disqualify him from the office of President ever again.
“He doesn’t understand the meaning of this country, its history or what it means to be deeply American.”
Springsteen, 75, is a Freehold native who lives in Colts Neck.
