Watergate Coverup
The Washington Post‘s Bob Woodward is the most successful American journalist who has written several books about U.S. presidents and their presidencies. He first came to fame with his journalist colleague Carl Bernstein at The Washington Post when they investigated and cracked open the Watergate coverup scandal of the Richard Nixon presidency that led to his forced resignation and demise. Woodward is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. Woodward’s previous book of President Trump was entitled Fear: Trump in the White House (2018, Simon and Schuster).
Trump “Unfit” for Presidency
Woodward alleges in War (p. 62) that Donald Trump is “unfit to lead the country.” He says Trump is “much more dangerous as president than Nixon was.” He explains that fellow Republicans in Congress turned against President Nixon when they learned how he had lied in covering up the Watergate breakup, which itself was not that great of a crime. Oftentimes, the coverup can be a greater mishap than the crime itself, and that the was the case with the Watergate scandal.
Woodward also points out in this new book that there is a big difference between Nixon and Trump in that Trump has retained nearly all of his Republican base that continues to support him. A big reason for that is what Woodward titled as his first Trump book—Fear. Republicans fear Trump’s political threats that he constantly makes and thereby reveal their cowardice.
Trump Is a “Fascist”
Woodward in this book also repeats the known assessment of Trump by his former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark A. Milley. He has said Trump “is a fascist” and “the most dangerous person to this country.”
My book entitled Bible Predicts Trump Fall (2022) is mostly 200 posts I wrote on my Kermit Zarley Blog about Donald Trump’s presidency as it was happening. On May 20, 2016, I posted, which is in this book, “I think Donald Trump is a big bag of hot air ready to blow up like the Hindenburg blimp if he becomes U.S. president.” And I posted on July 21, 2018, which is the book, “I think Trumpgate will make Watergate look like a Sunday school picnic.”
