Cyprus recorded a notable increase in both tourist arrivals and outbound travel by residents in September 2024, according to the Statistical Service.
Tourist arrivals reached 509,463 in September 2024, up 4.5% from 487,350 in the same month last year.
For the January-September 2024 period, tourist arrivals totalled 3,268,090, marking a 4.2% increase compared to the 3,136,145 recorded in the corresponding period of 2023.
Concurrently, travel abroad by Cyprus residents surged to 156,153 in September 2024, an 11.4% rise from 140,187 in September 2023.
Greece remained the top destination for Cypriot travellers, accounting for 35.0% (54,624) of returns. The United Kingdom followed with 7.8% (12,165), Italy with 6.3% (9,860), and Russia with 5.6% (8,719).
The data also revealed that holidays were the primary purpose of travel for Cypriot residents in September 2024, comprising 73.0% of trips.
Business travel accounted for 23.4%, while both studies and other reasons each represented 1.8% of travel purposes.
