There has been an influx of entries for the 2024 Hull and East Yorkshire Business Awards.
Event organiser Simon Jones has expressed his delight at the number of entrants as judges began the tough task of whittling down the contenders in anticipation of next month’s prestigious celebration event.
This year is the first since the baton was passed from Hull Live and the Hull Daily Mail’s publisher Reach Plc – which remains involved as a principal partner – to Mr Jones, who is known for spearheading the region’s Top 30 Under 30 initiative. The entrepreneur is delighted with the number of entrants that have flooded in, with even more nominations than last year.
“We are delighted by the response; it shows we have done the right thing,” said Mr Jones. “It is testament to all the work that has been done throughout the years too.
“These awards are meaningful, people wanted to see them continue, and to see the numbers come in like they have is also a pat on the back for us for positioning it in the right way.”
The deadline for nominations wrapped up on September 29, setting the stage for a desktop judging session when prominent figures from the business community made their assessments.
“I am thrilled that we have managed to pull together some of the best people in the region to judge these awards. Having the right people in place with subject experience when it came to the categories just made sense,” Mr Jones said, with expertise paired through the process.
Previous years had seen the winners also picked this way. However, in a second significant new step in addition to the onward development programmes being worked up for winners, judging site visits and interviews have been added ahead of November’s big night.
Mr Jones added: “It is really important for the level of prestige these awards attract to get a real feel for the businesses vying for the honours. Award applications can become a well-versed art, but the owner operator driving success will always speak from the heart. We wanted to capture that as part of the assessment process.”
The need to go the extra mile is being rewarded with a special celebratory networking event later this month for finalists and award partners to mingle ahead of the ceremony itself. The gathering at Hull’s new Iron Lilies venue in Princes Quay takes place on Saturday, October 26, almost a month before winners are crowned at the city’s DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Thursday, November 21.
Tickets to event are on sale now priced at £85 per person, plus VAT, or £800 for a table, with Hull’s own Debra Stephenson set to host.
Connexin takes the lead as the headline partner for the occasion, supported by illustrious names that include Bondholders, C3 Group, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, For Entrepreneurs Only, Fred Marketing, GW Power-Safe, Horncastle Group, Hull City Council, MKM, Sewell Group, University of Hull, and Wilkin Chapman.
Cobus Communications Group is the programme partner for the evening, with DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel sponsoring the drinks reception.
