First Vice President of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Chase Brown says the parish’s business community is in high spirits following a town hall meeting with National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang on Thursday night.
The town hall was held in hopes of reassuring citizens in Manchester following an uptick in murders.
Mahiri Stewart has that story.
Manchester has recorded 42 murders as at October 12.
That’s approximately 16% more than the number recorded for the corresponding period last year.
Mandeville residents were left in fear following a broad daylight shooting incident at the Mandeville Market on the morning of October 4.
The shooting left two people dead and four others injured.
The Manchester Police Division imposed a series of curfews in light of the incidents.
On Thursday, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang led a tour of the Mandeville Market and neighbouring communities.
He told residents that more resources would be deployed to the parish in an effort to reduce the uptick in crime.
Speaking with Nationwide News, Vice President of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Chase Brown, says members of the local business community are encouraged by the show of support from the police and the tour led by the Minister.
He says they hope the migrant criminals causing the havoc in Manchester will flee the parish.
Mr. Brown says the increased presence of police in Mandeville has left residents feeling a lot safer.
Meanwhile, Mr. Brown says a walkout of party promoters during Thursday’s townhall may have been due to the promoters misinterpreting Dr. Chang’s warning about social gatherings.
