*Warning: Contains minor spoilers for Woman of the Hour*
Netflix film Woman of the Hour recreates key moments in the life of dangerous criminal Rodney Alcala and how he gained his alias.
He appeared on US game show The Dating Game, but unknown to those also taking part and the audience watching on, Alcala had committed a series horrendous crimes.
It led to him being dubbed The Dating Game Killer and the Netflix film follows this period in his life and crimes starring and directed by Anna Kendrick, who also takes on the role of the episode’s bachelorette.
Key scenes in the film have the show appearance recreated although there are some minor adjustments to some details. For instance, Alcala was actually bachelor number one and while the real Cheryl did ask them to act as if they were in an audition, she said the scenario was because she is a drama teacher and they should play an old man, not a nerdy school boy or professor.
One question does seem to be included from the real life show but is cut off from other action happening during the scene.
At the beginning of the game, the bachelors were told to say hello to their prospective date to which Alcala replied: “We’re going to have a great time together Cheryl.” Here are some other questions and moments from Alcala’s actual Dating Game appearance that didn’t make it into the Netflix film.
Question: Bachelor number one – What’s your best time?
Alcala: The best time is at night, night time. Because that’s the only time there is.
Question: What’s wrong with morning, afternoon?
Alcala: Well, they’re ok, but night time is when it really gets good, then you’re really ready.
Question: I’m a drama teacher and I’m going to audition each of you for my private class. Bachelor number one, you’re a dirty old man. Take it away.
Alcala: Oh come on over here (growls and grunts).
Question: Bachelor number one, I’m serving you for dinner. What are you called and what do you look like?
Alcala: I’m called the banana and I look really good.
Question: Can you be a little more descriptive?
Alcala: Peel me.
Cheryl wasn’t properly introduced to Alcala on the show until she picked him for her date, when the host Jim Lange described him as: a “fine photographer” who enjoys sky diving. and motorcycles. Lange went on to reveal that the couple’s date would involve tennis lessons at a prestigious club before a day at amusement park Magic Mountain.
However, the date never took place as Cheryl would call producers the next day and say she couldn’t go out with Alcala as she found him ‘creepy’.
Woman of the Hour is now available to stream on Netflix
