STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A woman drove her vehicle into the front of a tanning salon in Graniteville Friday afternoon.
The scene unfolded just before 12:30 p.m., according to emergency radio transmissions.
A spokeswoman for the NYPD reports that a 45-year-old woman was attempting to park her vehicle when she failed to hit the brakes and subsequently went through the front window of the business.
At the site of the crash, Akron Plaza, a white Mercedes-Benz SUV could be seen with its front end elevated and rammed through the window of NYC Tan. Underneath the vehicle, a bollard could be seen bent under the weight of the SUV.
While both the business and the vehicle appear to have suffered damage as a result of the crash, it was not immediately clear if the driver sustained any injuries.
John Carandola, the owner of NYC Tan, reported that fortunately, nobody inside the business suffered any physical injuries, however, there were “a lot of rattled nerves.”
“From what I understand now, the person who was driving the vehicle lost control of her car and went up on the pole and then that pole lifted the car and it came through the front window of the store,” Carandola said.
The extent of the damage was predominantly contained to the front of the store, including glass from the window, the door, chairs and some sheetrock, as reported by Carandola.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision, according to the NYPD.
