‘A Quiet Place’ (2018-2024)
The thread was kicked off with the original poster using John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place series as their own example. The premise of the thriller being a dystopian society where absolute silence is the only means for survival amongst deadly creatures that hunt based on sound, the fan questioned: “no one ever farts, coughs or sneezes?”
“Anything becomes believable if you suspend disbelief enough,” one commenter responded, “And you have to suspend a lot of disbelief with A Quiet Place. I quite like the movie but (in my opinion) almost every single bit of world-building doesn’t hold up under any scrutiny at all. It’s easy enough to ignore it all because the tension and drama of the story is very engaging and so it can still be really fun to watch, regardless.”
‘Independence Day’ (1996)

“I put on Independence Day last summer, thinking I’d just watch 30-45 minutes,” said one commenter. “But then I got totally sucked in and watched the whole thing. It is so well paced, and I still love it the same as when I was 13 in the theater.”
