The year 2024 has set new records for cultural tourism in Albania, bringing significant growth in visitor numbers.
Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, shared data highlighting the surge in visits to Albania’s impressive castles, historical museums, and fascinating archaeological parks.
From January to September, cultural heritage sites and monuments attracted 1,092,584 visitors—a 35% increase compared to the same period in 2023. During this time, cultural sites saw a 40% rise in international tourists and a 31% increase in domestic visitors.
The most popular destinations include Gjirokastër Castle, which led the list with 196,515 visitors, followed by Butrint National Park with 127,753 visitors, and the “Georg Kastrioti” Museum in Kruja, which attracted 100,874 visitors.
This influx of visitors generated 394 million ALL in revenue, a 41% increase compared to 2023. Of the 367,000 museum visitors, most were drawn to the Kruja Museum Center, the “House of Leaves” Museum, and the Berat Museum Center.
Among the archaeological parks, Butrint led with 127,000 visitors, followed by Shkodër and Apollonia.
