Thadingyut festival stimulated employment opportunities for locals, tourism promotion and substantial business growth as hotels and guesthouses in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone were fully booked during the five-day-long holidays of Thadingyut Festival starting 16 October 2024.
“This year, domestic tourism significantly grew. It drove domestic tourism-related businesses to thrive. Horse-cart riding normally costs K10,000 for a short trip to one pagoda. Yet, the ride to Shwekuncha Pagoda on the bank of the Ayeyawady River costs K15,000. Most visitors flock to Ananda and Thatbyinnyu temples. We feel delighted with the increase in tourism. We provide the best service to our passengers. It is off to a good start at the beginning of the tourism peak season. Bagan warmly welcomes pilgrims,” said U Min Thu Swe, who is in charge of the horse-cart stand.
Domestic visitors flock to Bagan during the Thadingyut Festival (16-18 October). The serene beauty of the sacred temples illuminated with candlelight on the full moon day of Thadingyut gave a breathtaking night view of the historic landmark. About 100 horse carts provided service near Thatbyinnyu and Ananda temples. The number of visitor arrivals surged more than expected, creating local jobs. — Thitsa (MNA)/KK
