A burglary attempt at a Simi Valley business was thwarted early Sunday morning, thanks to the alertness of a witness who reported suspicious activity to the authorities. According to the Simi Valley Police Department, the incident took place around 1:00 AM on the 2200 block of Tapo Street, where the witness observed four suspects in masks and dark clothing inside a closed business.
The watchful citizen saw the suspects attempting to load a safe into a vehicle and swiftly called 911 to report the crime. Once the perpetrators realized they had been spotted, they abandoned their heist and fled the scene in a dark grey Nissan hatchback that had its license plate obscured, CBS Los Angeles reported. Simi Valley Police Department officers quickly located the suspects’ vehicle and, gave chase, but terminated the pursuit upon deeming the suspects’ high-speed driving too reckless.
Authorities were able to recover the safe, confirming that all currency inside was accounted for. The quick response by both the witness and the police prevented potential losses for the business. “Together, through our shared commitment, can we ensure that our city remains a safe and thriving place to live, work, and grow,” the Simi Valley Police Department expressed in a statement of gratitude toward the community’s vigilance.
As the investigation continues, the Simi Valley Police Department encourages anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact them at (805) 583-6950.
