The residents of Kithaganur and Bidarahalli are grappling with a severe waterlogging issue on the road connecting the two areas, making it nearly impossible for vehicles to pass. Heavy rains over the past week have inundated the road, creating hazardous conditions for commuters and locals. With water pooling at several points, daily travel has become an ordeal, particularly for those relying on two-wheelers and cars.
“We are at our wit’s end. This isn’t the first time we’ve faced such a situation. Every time it rains heavily, the road floods and nothing is done to address the drainage problem,” a resident said. He added that the issue has persisted for years, but no permanent solution has been provided by the authorities.
The flooded stretch of road has led to serious disruptions in daily commutes, with many residents forced to take long detours. Auto-rickshaw drivers and delivery personnel have also reported difficulties in navigating through the submerged roads. “I had to cancel my ride halfway through because my auto couldn’t move further. It’s affecting our livelihood,” said an auto driver who frequently travels through the area.
Residents have voiced concerns about the safety risks posed by the flooded road. In some places, the water is knee-deep, and the absence of proper drainage channels has aggravated the situation. “There’s always a fear that someone could get hurt, especially at night. It’s not just an inconvenience; it’s a safety hazard,” stated a resident.
One resident emphasised the urgent need for panchayat officials to step in, stating, “The panchayat must step in to help students who are forced to cross this flooded road and the women who feel distressed and hesitant to take this route. If they fail to act, we are prepared to meet with the Chief Minister or Deputy CM for assistance. I’ve been witnessing this issue for a long time, and it’s time for all of us to come together, and raise our concerns with the government about this ongoing problem. There’s also confusion about which panchayat this road falls under, whether it’s Kithaganur, Bidarahalli, or Doddagubbi. We end up complaining to multiple authorities, but nothing ever gets resolved.”
Residents further revealed that a woman recently fell in the flooded area due to the dangerously high water levels, emphasising the critical need for immediate action.
Residents have urged the panchayat officials to take swift action to resolve the waterlogging problem. They have called for immediate maintenance of the road, including better drainage systems, to prevent further incidents.
