ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Two people were hospitalized in a fire and explosion at a Cherokee County business Monday afternoon, fire officials said.
Univeter Road was closed in both directions between Chattin Drive and Jesse McCollum Road shortly after the incident at Carmichael Development, but the road has since reopened, according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.
They said late Monday afternoon that the fire had been extinguished, but a hazmat team was called to the scene after “a significant amount of diesel fuel” had spilled onto the ground.
The fire department said they responded to reports of a fire and explosion at the business just before 4 p.m. Firefighters reportedly found a dump truck and Conex trailer engulfed in flames, along with fire damage to the outside of a building on the property.
Two people at the scene were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for burn injuries. Firefighters did not find other victims.
Fire investigators are working to learn the cause of the fire.
