Majorca has issued a warning to UK tourists after a noticeable arrival on the Balearic Island. The European Union holiday hotspot has warned British holidaymakers locals “can’t move” in “claustrophobic” capital city Palma as four tourist cruise ships arrive.
A Palma local said he felt “overwhelmed,” unable to move around the city after four cruise ships full of tourists docked. Crowds of tourists in Majorca have made it difficult for locals to get around as more and more anti-tourism sentiment sweeps.
Majorca Daily Bulletin reporter Humphrey Carter said he has lived in Palma for almost 30 years and has never felt more uncomfortable walking around the city. Last weekend, he said he felt “claustrophobic” trying to make his way through after four cruise ships had docked in the port.

“A sizeable number of early low-season visitors, but the sheer wave of tourists I had to try and navigate my way through was just overwhelming,” he said. “I never thought I’d say it, but I’m on the next anti-mass tourism march.”
Mr Carter added that local authorities had assured locals there would be control on port activities, but this has not been the case. He said: “They were out in hoards and they were camped out without a concern in the world.
“No wonder. During my hour of battling round the centre I didn’t see a single member of the security forces – so much for looking after the safety of tourists and residents.” Replying, a reader said: “This has really struck a chord with me, and I wholeheartedly agree with every point made. The current situation in Palma is not only unfair to tourists who expect a more enjoyable experience, but especially to the local shop owners who are doing everything by the book—paying their taxes, maintaining their businesses, and trying to make an honest living—while illegal street traders operate right in front of them with zero consequences.
“What’s worse is that this isn’t just a problem in Palma; it’s widespread across the tourist resorts as well. Everywhere you go, these traders are selling fake goods, undermining local businesses that are playing by the rules.”
