A Lowcountry therapy dog is now sharing her purpose to a wider audience through her new children’s’ book.In this week’s Lowcountry Living, we’re giving you a glimpse behind the cover of her incredible story. Back in 2022, WJCL told you about Martina the therapy dog, bringing joy to others after being rescued herself. Today Martina continues her mission of spreading smiles throughout the Lowcountry.“She walks around, and she likes to keep our day going,” said Jaclyn Martz of Pockets full of Sunshine.The canine’s story is now being told through a new children’s book titled ‘Martina’s Purpose.’“It tells her whole story from when she was found tangled in barb wire fence in Indiana in a snow storm in the middle of no where at 10 months old,” said Jennifer Rulli, Martina’s owner and author of ‘Martina’s Purpose.’The book features local places and people like the Harbour Town Lighthouse, The Salty Dog, and the special adults at Pockets Full of Sunshine.“But they were sure special because they gave me the best hugs,” Rulli read from the book.“That is so great were in the book,” Martz said.Martina’s Purpose doesn’t just end with her visits.All proceeds from the new book will go to organizations like Pockets Full of Sunshine, Hospice Care of the Lowcountry and the shelter where she was rescued, Waldo’s Motley Crew.Rulli hopes the pages inside will inspire people of all ages to discover their purpose and help others.“I think even grown ups are going to like it because the illustrations are just amazing, and her story is amazing,” said Rulli.“You’re a special dog, Marti,” said Jason Friedench of Pockets full of Sunshine.
