A travel expert has warned tourists against doing one thing when they travel to Italy.
American travel and food YouTuber, Gregor Brown has revealed all the dos and don’ts when it comes to holidaying in the sun-soaked country.
Having moved to Italy from the US when he was younger, Gregor revealed the thing you should never do as a tourist, he said: “I do it sometimes, but the Italian’s frown if you order a cappuccino past the curfew of 11. Yeah, there’s the cappuccino curfew of 11 am.”
He added: “Sometimes you do it (order a cappuccino after 11am), and if you must, at a restaurant after you order your food and had lunch don’t ask for a cappuccino following lunch or dinner. If you must, ask for a caffe macchiato or just a straight up caffe. Italians will look at you like you’re a mad man for having a cappuccino after dinner, and never, no matter what you do order a cappuccino with your food, it’s not done in Italy.”
But instead of upsetting the locals, he said one thing that tourists could consider, is trying a caffee corretto: “If you really want to kick it up and have a caffe the proper Italian way, the way I see a lot of Italian guys do it at 9am in the morning, at the local corner bar you can have a caffe corretto and that is caffe with a little bit of alcohol added into it. Have it after dinner, after lunch or heck even do like those locals do and have it at 9am in the morning.”
Another thing that he warned tourists against doing is ‘not dressing appropriately’ as he said that churches and museums sometimes have specific policies on what those wishing to enter can and can’t wear. Among the things he claimed tourists should leave back at their accomadation he said were high-heels and shorts.
While he urges tourists to heed his no cappuccino past 11am advice, one thing that those visiting the country might be happier to hear about is that they’re not expected to tip during their stay as, he said: “Never tip when you’re out and about for dinner or lunch. It’s all folded into the price and the waiters, they’re not working for the tip, they’re on a salaried job. It’s much different to what you’d find in the United States where the tipping culture is massive.”
As Gregor provides useful tips for those looking to spend some time in the popular holiday destination, those heading to the country have been urged to travel there with caution this week due to the adverse weather conditions.
With the increment weather conditions having seen large parts of both central France and Italy flooded in recent days the Foreign Office have said told those planning to the visit the affected areas to “follow the instructions of local authorities” as red and orange weather warnings have been issued across the country, with them expected to remain in place until tomorrow (Monday, October 22).
Such is the severity of the current weather conditions that one person has already died, after a car was picked up and moved in the flooding in the small town of Pianora in the city of Bologna.
