Anna Kendrick’s creepy directorial debut has raced to the number one spot on Netflix since its release on 18 October
True crime enthusiasts have run to social media to express their bold opinions about Anna Kendrick’s new drama since its release on Netflix.
Woman of the Hour premiered at Toronto Film Festival in September 2023 and it is based on real life serial killer Rodney Alcala, also known as The Dating Game Killer, who is thought to have murdered more than 100 people.
Since its release on Netflix on 18 October it has stormed to the number one spot, and fans have flocked to X to declare how incredible it was.

One user said: “#WomanOfTheHour was absolutely INCREDIBLE. This is what it is to be a woman. Excellently executed by Anna Kendrick. What a great directorial debut… just so powerful and tragic.”
Another user reacted: “’Woman of the Hour’ on Netflix is an insane movie and even more insane true story. Just wild.”
Kendrick’s new horror film delves into the chilling story behind serial killer Rodney Alcala, played by Daniel Zovatto, both before and after he appeared on a dating show where he met Cheryl Bradshaw, played by Kendrick.
While Alcala has been conclusively linked to eight murders, the actual number of victims is unknown and could be higher than 100.
He was arrested in 1979 and later sentenced to death. But he died while on death row in 2021.
Some people didn’t know what to expect from Kendrick’s new drama, but fans have commended the acting and direction.
One X user said: “Watched Woman of the Hour this weekend and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. All of the women were amazing and the visceral dread Daniel Zovatto made me feel was crazy. Great directorial debut for Anna Kendrick.”
Another user said: “WOMAN OF THE HOUR: Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut is a compelling and tense thriller revelling in its 70s period aesthetic and showcasing great potential in Kendrick’s filmmaking prowess.”
Woman of the Hour has already received a whopping 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is available to stream now on Netflix.
