UK holidaymakers have given a cheeky snub to protestors in Majorca and Tenerife. Despite the unrest on the holiday havens, Brits have “ignored” the protests, leading to a booking boom for spots like Majorca, Ibiza, and Tenerife.
TravelgateX, a travel booking platform, has revealed a 27% spike in bookings to the Balearic Islands compared to the same time last year. From October 7 to October 13, the Balearic Islands were the sixth most popular Spanish destination.

A whopping 20% of all Spanish bookings by Brits were made within the last 90 days, with 16% snapped up between 15 and 30 days before jetting off. Catalonia enjoyed a 20% surge in bookings, Andalusia saw a 16% increase, the Canary Islands had a 15% rise, Madrid bookings went up by 13%, and Valencia by 10%.
Couples made up nearly half of the bookings, opting mostly for short breaks of two to five nights. Spaniards accounted for 54% of the bookings, while Brits represented 18%.
Alfonso Rodríguez, the central government delegate in the Balearics, has weighed in on the demonstrations amid growing local discontent, reports Birmingham Live.
“The situation we saw in Caló des Moro fits in with some of the complaints that are made to establish certain limits and to avoid overcrowding and with the policy of this Government Delegation” he remarked earlier this summer. “With prior communication to this government delegation, which has the will to guarantee the right to demonstrate and which also shares many of the demands, all this would not have happened,” he wrapped up his comments.
