Founder and CEO, Google DeepMind
Demis Hassabis is a pioneering figure in artificial intelligence and the founder and CEO of Google DeepMind. A child chess prodigy, Demis earned a degree in Computer Science from Cambridge University before pursuing a successful career in video game development. He later completed a PhD in cognitive neuroscience at University College London.
In 2010, he co-founded DeepMind, which became a world leader in AI research and development. The company’s breakthrough came in 2016 when its AlphaGo program defeated the world champion in Go. Google acquired DeepMind in 2014, with Demis continuing as CEO.
Under his leadership, Google DeepMind has made significant advancements in AI, including protein folding prediction and general-purpose AI systems. Demis has received numerous accolades for his work, including a CBE for services to science and technology, and was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with John Jumper, also of Google DeepMind, and David Baker of the University of Washington.
