According to recent data published by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, from 2016 to 2020, the average contribution of small firms to GDP was 35 per cent, showcasing small businesses as significant contributors to the Canadian economy.
During this year’s National Small Business Week, eBay Canada is honouring our Entrepreneur of the Year winners, recognizing outstanding contributions from Canadian small and medium-sized businesses across the country. 2024 marks the 20th edition of this awards program in Canada, and eBay is celebrating Canadian sellers across four main categories: Entrepreneur of the Year, Micro-Multinational of the Year, Emerging Ecommerce Entrepreneur of the Year, and Small Town Seller of the Year.
This year’s winners include a former teacher who turned a part-time hobby into two eBay stores which are now his full-time career, a father who wanted to pursue personal interests and have more time at home with his child and for his community, business owners who wanted to support and promote sustainability in their community, and a brick-and-mortar business who wanted to expand their reach beyond their local community. The paths and reasons that lead people to entrepreneurship are diverse, and they are what power the incredible breadth and depth of eBay’s inventory. They’re why we continue to innovate and build a marketplace and technology that makes it seamless to get started as an entrepreneur.
With access to 132 million active buyers in more than 190 markets, Canadian small and medium-sized businesses on eBay can “stay local and sell global.” This reach is invaluable, especially in an increasingly globalized world, where cultures and communities cross borders.
