The Department of Tourism (DOT) said Friday it is actively assisting tourists left stranded across the Philippines because of the disruptions caused by Typhoon Kristine.
Travel was heavily impacted, and damage was reported at several tourist destinations.
It said 529 tourists were stranded across various regions including 179 in Region II (Batanes), 16 in Region IV-A (Mauban, Quezon, and Lobo, Batangas), 33 in MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro and Marinduque), 12 in Region VI (Boracay), 25 in Region VIII (Maasin) and 264 in Region XIII (Surigao del Norte).
The storm also damaged 14 tourist sites in Sorsogon, Masbate, Batangas and the Dinagat Islands.
The DOT said it prioritizes the safety and well-being of tourists affected by the storm and is working closely with regional offices, local government units (LGUs) and other agencies to provide immediate assistance.
It is also verifying reports, particularly in Northern Luzon and the Bicol Region, which suffered the brunt of the storm. Updates will be released as they become available, the DOT said.
Regional offices are working with accommodation establishments (AEs) to provide temporary shelter for stranded tourists.
The DOT said it maintains close communication with LGUs, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and other relevant agencies to ensure immediate assistance reaches those in need.
Tourists and travelers are advised to stay informed and continue to monitor official weather bulletins from PAGASA and local advisories.
Depending on weather advisories and actual weather conditions, travelers with itineraries to affected areas or ports were asked to postpone their activities until authorities declare it safe.
