Hugh Jackman was all smiles and waves as he filmed a movie this week in Monmouth County.
Mr. Wolverine himself was in Matawan to film “Song Sung Blue,” an upcoming film based on a true story.
Per Variety, Jackman, 56, stars alongside fellow Oscar nominee Kate Hudson in the movie, which is an adaptation of the 2008 documentary of the same name from Greg Kohs.
The documentary centered on Mike and Claire Sardina, singers from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who perform in Lightning & Thunder, a Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline tribute band. Both the documentary and the film take their name from the 1972 Diamond song.
Jackman, a two-time Tony winner (”The Boy from Oz”), is no stranger to musical roles. For this film, he’s stepping into the role of Mike Sardina while Hudson plays Claire Sardina.
Starring with Jackman and Hudson in the Focus Features movie, directed by Craig Brewer (”Dolemite is My Name,” “Coming 2 America,” “Hustle & Flow”), are Emmy-winning “Sopranos” star Michael Imperioli, Jim Belushi, Fisher Stevens, Ella Anderson, Mustafa Shakir, King Princess and Hudson Hilbert Hensley.
Matawan officials posted photos of Jackman in town on Facebook.
“Mayor Altomonte and Council are happy to welcome the latest major movie production to town featuring stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson,” they said, noting that Kevin Smith’s “Clerks III” and Amazon’s “Space Cadet” are among the recent movies to have filmed in the borough.
