The third volume of a series of picture books about historic Fair Haven was released Oct. 21.
“Looking Back at North Fair Haven” by Robert J. Kolsters features more than 600 images of the northern Cayuga County village.
Subjects include the Southern Central and HoJack railroads, and their transformative effect on the Little Sodus Bay area.
“This book narrates the story of how a port emerged to meet the needs of the railroad and chronicles the village’s evolution until the rails were pulled up over a century later. Explore the impact on the entire community when Lake Ontario tall ships began entering the bay to be loaded at the railroad trestle at its north end,” publisher Broader Bound said in a news release. “(It’s) more than a collection of images; it is a testament to the resilience and evolution of a community shaped by its railroad heritage. Enjoy this celebration of its remarkable enduring connection to the past.”
