The General Department of Tourism Development and International Cooperation and the Siem Reap Provincial Administration have discussed the potential upscaling of ‘Model Tourism Village’ in the province, one of Cambodia’s most visited destinations.
The discussion took place in a workshop organised by the two in Siem Reap on Oct. 25.
According to Yun Linne, Siem Reap’s Deputy Provincial Governor, his province strongly supported the initiative and encouraged residents of the targeted villages and Siem Reap at large to support it to promote its tourism, livelihoods, and local economy.
So far, he said, Preah Dak village in the Banteay Srei district of the province has been developed into a successful model tourism village, attracting both domestic and international visitors with its clean and green environment and abundant tourism services.
Director General of the General Department of Tourism Development and International Cooperation Chuk Chumno said that a model tourism village is a driver for sustainable tourism, contributing to the diversification of tourism products while promoting rural development.
The workshop has agreed on criteria to upscale the model tourism village, including cultural and natural resources; cultural conservation and dissemination; economic, social, and environmental sustainability; tourism potential, development, governance, and priority; infrastructure and connectivity; and health, safety, and security.
