An adored local business will close in Douglas after 25 years of top-class catering and fine foods.
Billy Mackesy announced in a touching tribute to his local community that he has decided to step away from Billy Mackesy’s Douglas Village Foods – with the popular catering company closing its doors next week.
Billy confirmed this week that the “time has come” for him to close his little yellow shop and retire. He thanked the generations of loyal customers who have trusted him with catering all their communions, confirmations, birthday parties, family events and more over the years.
In a heartfelt social media post announcing the closure Billy said it was with “sadness and gratitude” that he closes for the final time on Saturday, November 2. He said the huge success of the family-run business “was only possible thanks to the incredible loyalty and support” of the community.

He thanked customers for their continued support over more than two decades and said he has been “humbled” by getting to meet so many customers and local suppliers.
“From providing quality, community-focused food, our store has been a fixture here. This was only possible thanks to the incredible loyalty and support of our customers, suppliers, and the entire Douglas community, as well as the dedication of our wonderful staff,” he wrote,
“To each of you, I offer my heartfelt gratitude. You have made this family business a success, and I will forever be humbled by the people we’ve had the privilege of knowing.
“While this is a bittersweet moment, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the legacy we’ve built together. Please feel free to visit during our final days of operation to say goodbye. Thank you for 25 wonderful years. It has been my pleasure to serve you.”
