Kneecap’s new movie is officially a hit across the globe, breaking barriers for Irish language films.
The self-titled biopic from the rap trio has been met with critical acclaim since its August release. If you haven’t had the chance to catch it yet, it’s set to hit Amazon Prime on Nov. 1.
It has already been selected to represent Ireland in the International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards, and some think it will likely get the nomination. The film has received high praise from other music legends, including Elton John.
Móglaí Bap (Naoise Ó Cairealláin), Dj Provaí (JJ Ó Dochartaigh) and Mo Chara (Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh) appear as themselves in the film, which documents their rise to fame in post-Troubles Belfast.
It’s written and directed by Rich Peppiatt, and also stars Michael Fassbender, Josie Walker, Simone Kiry, and Fionnuala Flaherty in supporting roles.

The movie has scored a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many saying it’s fast-paced, fresh and hilarious with appeal to all viewers. It seems to now be popular in an unlikely place as well.
Daniel Lambert, manager for Kneecap, posted a photo on X showcasing a line wrapped around the block to see the film.
He said, with a shocked emoji: “Queue to see the kneecap movie in Mumbai today.”
While it may seem surprising, the two countries have more in common than one may think. According to Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, their “shared struggle for independence, a joint admiration of literature and culture, and an acceptance and tolerance for others has created a strong bond between our two nations.”
