Sketchy Africans, a comedy film directed by Vincent Mbaya, is set for its cinema release on Wednesday, November 30.

What is Sketchy Africans about?
The film tells the story of a desperate entrepreneur pushed by family expectations and business struggles.
He teams up with her friend, a debt-ridden theatre director, to fake an engagement and stage a sham dowry ceremony to secure much-needed cash.
Nyokabi Macharia and Bruce Makau play the lead roles, with supporting performances from Morris Mwangi, Shix Kapienga, Duncan Murunyu, Benson Ojuwa, Beatrice Kamuyu, Gloria Songoro, and Andrew Levi.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke Nyokabi praised the talent in the film.
“The performances are brilliant. Sometimes, I would just watch other actors on set filming because of how entertaining they were. I think this film also has interesting characters. Quirky, weird characters,” she said.
The actress noted that the prospect of bringing different actors together for a comedy film is rare in Kenya.
“Comedy is mostly associated with comedians and content creators.”
Nyokabi, who primarily plays serious roles, said playing her character in a comedy film was a struggle.
“I struggled, especially the first few days, to play with the character, especially seeing that I am playing a lead.
I tried so hard to be funny, and it took me a while to realise the comedy was in the character’s situation.” she said.
Mbaya previously directed Country Queen, the first Kenyan series on Netflix, the Kalasha-winning crime drama series Pepeta for Showmax, and the Kalasha-nominated drama film Chaguo.
Shix said she loves the way the movie balances between the dramatic tensions and comedic relief.
“At first I thought I wasn’t fit for the role until the producer challenged me and told me to go with it. I hope I nailed it though,” she said.

Elsewhere, Shix shared a lovely video of her friends visiting her parents.
The thespian left netizens in her comment section emotional, saying that they needed friends like hers.
Shix’s mum in the video teared up while praying for her thoughtful daughter and her friends.
