The Apprentice—a biopic about the rise of Donald Trump as a real estate mogul—is new on digital streaming this week.
The Apprentice debuted at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival in May and opened in theaters on October 11. The official logline for The Apprentice reads, “The story of how a young Donald Trump started his real-estate business in 1970s and ’80s New York with the helping hand of infamous lawyer Roy M. Cohn.”
Sebastian Stan stars as Trump in The Apprentice, while Jeremy Strong plays Roy Cohn. The film also stars Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump and Martin Donovan as Fred Trump.
Per When to Stream, The Apprentice will debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Friday, November 1.
Although When to Stream is typically accurate with its reports, the film’s studio, Briarcliff Entertainment, has not announced or confirmed the PVOD release date and it is subject to change.
The Apprentice is up for pre-order on VUDU and AppleTV for $24.99, which is also the film’s purchase price. Digital rental prices are typically $5 less, so viewers can expect to rent The Apprentice for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
The Apprentice should also be available to purchase or rent on PVOD on a variety of other digital platforms, including Prime Video.
How Did Stan Approach His Portrayal Of Trump?
In an interview with USA Today prior to the release of The Apprentice in theaters, Sebastian Stan—who has starred as The Winter Soldier in the Avengers films as well as Tommy Lee in the Hulu series Pam & Tommy—talked about how he dove into the process of playing the young version of future U.S. President Donald Trump.
“How do you take on the most famous person in the world? Somebody that people feel so strongly about, and everyone has an impression of?” Stan told USA Today. “I was reassured [by director Ali Abbasi that] there was something underneath all the noise that was important to explore. Namely, why do people do what they do?”
The 2024 Republican presidential nominee slammed The Apprentice as “fake and classless” on his Truth Social account after the film was released in theaters.
“It’s a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job, put out right before the 2024 Presidential Election, to try and hurt the Greatest Political Movement in the History of our Country,” read part in Trumps Truth Social post.
Per The The Numbers, The Apprentice has made $3.5 million during its North American theatrical run and nearly $2 million in international ticket sales for a worldwide box office tally of $5.5 million against a $16 million production budget.
Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave the film an 81% “fresh” rating based on 210 reviews, while the film earned an 84% “fresh” RT Audience Score based on 500-plus verified user ratings.
Rated R, The Apprentice will debut on PVOD on Friday.
