After almost 90 years, the flights of planes from different countries have returned to the tourist and sports aerodrome of Gjirokastra. There were 6 small planes from Italy that landed at the aerodrome without having to process the relevant documentation in Rinas.
Italian pilots say that the new status of this field aerodrome is an incentive for the development of aviation tourism.
“From what we’ve seen when we fly, it’s a wonderful place, we’ll definitely come back again and there will be other pilots with us because we’ll give you the best words for the hospitality. I am sure that air tourism will develop in this way”, says an Italian tourist.
“It is the first time for me to be in Gjirokastra, we are pleased to have participated in such an activity, it is quite useful for air tourism and the flight of small planes from Italy, we are much closer than we think”, says another.
Now for the pilots whose destination is Gjirokastra as well as the south of the country, customs and police service is offered at the airport, making it possible to fly directly from the respective countries.
“We have already opened the way for the development of air tourism in Albania, and here at the Gjirokastra aerodrome, we welcome all today’s pilots coming from Italy and soon we expect other tourists from the world to come here to the Gjirokastra aerodrome”, says Militiadhis Kocajeridhis, representative of Civil Aviation.
As part of the revitalization of the Gjirokastra aerodrome, a twinning agreement was also signed with Sibari airport in Italy at the weekend. Throughout this year, numerous activities have been held at the Gjirokastra aerodrome, including the organization of the 8th European Air Sports Championship.
