Tulum, with an impressive 753% increase in travel searches from Spain, is positioned as the second favorite destination for Spanish travelers in 2025, according to the Skyscanner travel portal.
The first place is occupied by Akureyri, in Iceland, which had an increase of 764%.
Within the Top 10, Tulum is the only Mexican destination, followed by places such as Okinawa (Japan), Brasov (Romania), Gan (Maldives), and Shenzhen (China), among others.
Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Costa Mujeres Hotel Association, highlights that the Spanish market is key for the Mexican Caribbean.
“More than 60% of the hotel investment in the entity is Spanish, which represents a great advantage since these owners actively seek to attract tourists to their lodging centers,” he mentioned.
Currently, there are daily direct flights from Spain to Quintana Roo, facilitating the flow of Iberian travelers to the destination.
According to recent data from the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat, Spanish tourists represent 1% of total visits to the state in 2024, placing them in eighth place within the Top 10 of visiting nationalities.
Andrés Martínez Reynoso, director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), points out the growth of tourism from Chile, while, with the streamlining of visas, Peru could become a key market in Latin America.
In addition, Hindu weddings organized by American citizens are generating massive movements of up to 80 people per event, representing an important niche to consider.
Canada, another strategic market, has also shown an increase in reservations for the winter season, with a 15% increase in demand. To meet this demand, flights from Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary are back.
