As more and more sex crime allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs continue to come out, so do old clips about his infamous parties — and they’re now being seen in a vastly different light.
One of the latest videos to resurface in the wake of the disgraced rapper’s scandal is from the 2000 horror movie parody Scary Movie, which has been heavily featured on streaming services in the lead-up to Halloween.
During one scene in the fan-favorite film — which primarily parodies Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer — high school friends Cindy (Anna Faris) and Brenda (Regina Hall) are discussing classmate Buffy (Shannon Elizabeth), when Brenda brings up the character’s behavior at a fictionalized version of one of Diddy’s parties that year.
“My friend Sean had a pool party this summer. … You know, Puff Daddy?” Brenda says to Cindy in the clip. “Anyway, everyone was drinking Cristal champagne and then it started to get wild and people was getting freaky in the pool and stuff.”
For Brenda, the point of the monologue was to explain to Cindy why she disliked Buffy.
“I look over and there was your girl, getting buck wild in the Jacuzzi. With a backup dancer!” Hall quips in character, adding: “I mean, that’s nasty. That’s lower than a security guard. At least security can get you backstage. She don’t love herself!”
People rewatching the film this fall have been reposting the clip online, shocked to see the Diddy reference in the 24-year-old comedy.
“Why the people in scary movie talking about diddy,” one person asked on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“they gave us clues about diddy on scary movie 24 years ago,” another wrote.
The Scary Movie franchise — created by the Wayans brothers (and produced by Harvey Weinstein, who is now in prison for his own sex crimes) — is jam-packed with pop culture references, particularly those contemporary to when each movie came out. (In fact, Brenda goes on to reference R. Kelly’s infamous sex crimes in a scene in 2006’s Scary Movie 4.)
For decades Diddy’s blow-out bashes were lauded — the talk of Hollywood. Ever since his September arrest, however, they’ve been discussed in a much different context.
Diddy, now 55, is facing federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. The one-time hip-hop icon — who has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and plans to testify in court next May — is also facing an ever-increasing number of sexual assault lawsuits against him, with more than 120 people (men, women, and minors) detailing the rapper’s alleged sex crimes.
Diddy’s legal team has continued to vehemently deny the allegations against him.
“Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone — adult or minor, man or woman,” his attorney said in a statement earlier this month.
As for the Scary Movie franchise, Marlon Wayans announced on Tuesday, October 29, that Scary Movie 6 is in the works.
