HIT spoof horror franchise Scary Movie is returning – and the three brothers who were behind it have now revealed they will be back on board.
Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Wayans co-wrote the first two films in the franchise, which Keenen also directed and Marlon and Shawn both star in.
Speaking to Deadline, the Wayans brothers said: “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again.
“This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”
Jonathan Glickman, CEO of Miramax, the studio behind the franchise, also confirmed their comeback.
He told Deadline how he is “thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise.”

Before adding: “The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”
While Shawn Wayans also confirmed the news via his Instagram account, saying: “WE’RE BACK!! After nearly 20 years the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for…a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!”
This will be the first time that the Wayans brothers have worked together on a new screenplay for 18 years with Scary Movie 6 set to start filming next year.
The first Scary Movie satarised several popular horror films, including Scream, and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

While the subsequent films went on to parody other popular big-screen offerings, including The Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Ring.
Various comedies and other blockbusters were also spoofed in the series, which saw the original Scary Movie making the most money at the box office, grossing almost £280 million, having cost just £15 million to produce.
The franchise has since gone from strength to strength and has made almost £650 million globally.
But Scary Movie’s huge financial success was a surprise to many, none more so than actress Anna Faris, who plays Cindy.
At the time of her audition she had absolutely no big screen experience nor an agent.
She previously told Variety: “I started the audition with my mum recording me on one of those big, old VHS cameras hoisted on her shoulder.
“And then with the second scene I went to my neighbors and I was like, ‘My mum can’t do this audition with me because it’s way too raunchy. Can you film it for me?’
“So I sent it in, and they asked me to come down.”
