The Eat Local Supper and 2024 Paintearth Community Business Awards were held at the Coronation Community Hall on Oct. 23.
Put on in partnership between the Paintearth Economic Partnership Society (PEPS) and Battle River Economic Opportunities Committee (BREOC), the event’s 150 attendees were treated to a meal with ingredients sourced from around the region.
With the roast beef coming from Oyen, potatoes sourced from Esther, Carrots from Altario, salad ingredients from Red Cliff, and other ingredients from nearby the meal showcased what the region can offer for variety.
Following supper, the community business awards were presented by PEPS and BREOC member George Glazier and Castor Battle River Innovation Centre manager Amanda Simpson.
Five awards were presented for each community, Castor and Coronation. Awards were presented in the categories of Business of the Year, Home-based Business of the Year, Customer Service of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, and Value Added Ag. business of the year.
For Castor, the Business of the Year award was presented to Shar and Lucas How of How’s Greenhouse. Home-based Business of the Year was presented to Mayra Bribiesca. The Customer Service of the Year award was presented to Ducky Sung of Castor’s A.G. Foods. Castor’s Entrepreneur of the Year was presented to Anita Thomas and her business Chic-to-Hick Flowers and Gifts. Finally, the Value-added Ag Business of the Year was awarded to Ian Grieble and Dana Blume of Redtail Farms.
For Coronation, the Business of the Year was presented to Kes and Billy Lee of Coronation A.G. Foods. The Home-based Business of the Year Award was presented to Jodi Shipton, owner of Clothes 2 You by Jodi. The Customer Service of the Year Award was presented to Keith Weeks of Coronation’s Rangeland Auto Repair. The Coronation Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Jessi Wadstein of Iron Tusk Tattoo. Finally, the Value Added Ag. Business of the Year was presented to Ryan and Tracey Ramsay of Ramsay’s Stockman Centre.
In addition to the business awards, organizers recognized the long-time contributions of Archie Merchant and Brian Tellier, and their families, for the many years of service both have contributed to the community of Coronation.
