REDDING, Calif. — Both seasoned and aspiring entrepreneurs are getting ready to compete in this year’s Shasta Economic Development start up games.
Shasta Startup is encouraging people who are interested in becoming an entrepreneur to start validating their ideas.
According to Shasta Economic Development Corporation (Shasta EDC), a financial backer of the Startup Games, they anticipate it to be a way to foster the skills and talent that is needed in the county’s workforce.
Start Up Redding’s Director, Katie Janiszewski, said aspiring entrepreneurs should constantly be talking about their business and surround themselves with positivity even if they don’t have the financial means at the moment.
“The more validation and iteration you can do on your prototyping or your MVPs or your minimum viable products, that’s going to get you a lot of information and most of the time you can do that without spending a lot of money,” said Janiszewski.
Janiszewski said people interested in starting a business in Redding should look for gaps in the market and see if they have the solution to better serve the community.
The event starts off on Nov. 1 with the participants pitching business ideas then using the best ideas to form teams.
The teams will then develop a prototype, receive customer feedback, come with numbers to present on Sunday to local business owners at a live “shark tank” style event.
The event will be free and open to the public at IOOF building in downtown Redding on Sunday at 3 p.m.
