FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Flower Hut, a local business, is putting its best foot forward to raise money for a local family.
McKayla Ingram’s family has battled immense difficulties as a result of her three-year-old Kayzen’s health issues from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) since his birth.
His most recent surgery in October had complications, requiring him to be airlifted back to B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. As of November 1st, a GoFundMe campaign set up by Ingram had raised over $3,100.
According to Hordy, the familiarity of the story hit close to home and spurned her into action.
“I’m a mother. My kids are grown,” said Hordy. “I’m also a grandmother. Your heart just goes out to a family that has such a small little boy going through such struggles.”
“My grandson had had some heart problems when he was first born. He’s since grown from it. My heart just goes out to them. When I saw they had to go back [to Vancouver], I just thought, well, let’s see what I can do to help them.”
Donations can be made at the store, located at 9508 100th Street in Fort St. John. Participants who fill out a form will be entered into a draw for a flower arrangement valued at $100 per month for the next year.
Those interested can also call by phone to make a donation.
Hordy adds she may extend the November 8th deadline until Christmas to assist the family with the holiday season.
“It’s any donation. If someone wants to stop by and give their coffee money instead of getting coffee, I’m happy. I’m sure every cent counts. I’m sure [McKayla] would be happy too.”
