EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A local program is celebrating 30 years of gifting books to local children.
It’s estimated that the Give a Kid a Book Program has given out over 80,000 new books to underprivileged children in the Chippewa Valley.
It’s run by the Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire.
They say each year it’s their goal for every child to receive a new book during the holiday season.
“Reading and books are just a great opportunity for kids to expand their imagination, finding that character that they really want to read about or a really awesome author that they really like or a specific genre. Just gives kids a really great foundation for literacy,” Stacy Yearous with Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library said.
Give a Kid a Book is now accepting donations through Dec. 16, 2024.
Ways people can donate:
- Contribute monetarily – sending donations to the Friends of the Library (Attn: GAKAB 400 Eau Claire St, Eau Claire WI 54701) or online HERE.
- Participate in Books-A-Million’s (BAM) Holiday Book Drive now – December 8.
- Donate NEW, unwrapped children’s books. Donations can be dropped off at the Friends of the Library Bookstore (Level 0 of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, November 1 – December 16) or find the Seasonal Bear display in the library (December 2 – December 16).
