Sanjay Dutt was disappointed with film’s failure and scrapped the idea of making its sequel.
In 2011, a movie starring three major stars was released, but it flopped miserably at the box office. Although the film didn’t earn much, it managed to recover its cost. We are talking action black comedy film Rascals. Helmed by David Dhawan, the film featured Ajay Devgn Sanjay Dutt in lead roles along with stars like Arjun Rampal, Kangana Ranaut, Satish Kaushik, Anil Dhawan, and Mukhtar Khan. Despite including comedy and drama, it turned out to be a major disappointment at the box office.
Before the release, Rascals generated massive hype, but it bombed in theatres. According to Box Office India, Rascals was made under the budget of Rs 46 crore and did a business of Rs 33.34 crore across India and had a worldwide gross of Rs 51.01 crore. While it managed to recover its budget, it wasn’t declared a hit.
After Rascals’ massive failure at the box-office, Sanjay Dutt scrapped the idea of making a sequel. While the film had a decent opening on its release day, collections started dipping from the next day after the negative reviews from the critics and audience.
The story of Rascals revolves around two con men, Bhagat Bhosle (played by Ajay Devgn) and Chetan Chauhan (played by Sanjay Dutt), who keep trying to ruin each others’ plans. Arjun Rampal portrays the villain, Anthony Gonsalves. Despite a star-studded cast, the film failed to resonate with audiences.
