A new Netflix film has been dubbed the ‘most cringe’ by viewers just days after its debut.
Hijack 93 made a brief appearance in the top ten of the UK’s most-watched films on the streaming service following its release last week, but it has since elicited a mixed reception.
The movie is inspired by true events and follows a small group of Nigerian men who hijack an aeroplane, hoping that taking hostages will aid them in toppling the military-run government.
Four members of the Movement for the Actualization of Democracy seize control of a flight carrying government officials, business leaders, and ordinary citizens. The drama intensifies when the captain is compelled to land due to dwindling fuel supplies.
Although Hijack 93 reached number eight in Netflix’s most-watched films last week, it has now fallen from the charts, leaving audiences somewhat perplexed, reports the Daily Record.
One viewer expressed their candid opinion on social media: “Hijack 93′ has to be the most cringe movie I’ve ever seen on Netflix.” Another viewer suggested that despite its possibly subpar quality, the film might still offer entertainment value to subscribers, highlighting one particularly humorous scene.
“How is no one talking about the binoculars in Hijack 93 on Netflix? Got to be one of the funniest scenes in a serious movie I have ever seen. We watched it last night and we were creasing up!”.
However, one viewer posited that the subpar acting perceived by some might be a deliberate choice to deliver a more authentic portrayal.
The true story itself is frequently seen as a bungled hijacking attempt, which has led viewers to speculate if this is precisely what the film intends to depict.
One viewer commented: “I watched the news when this event happened but apart from that didn’t know much about it.
“Reading other reviews I agree that some of the acting was a bit poor but found that more fitting and authentic in this film… these were real people as opposed to plastic ‘actors’ from the usual Z-list.”
