The late Queen Elizabeth II is set to make a surprise Hollywood movie cameo. The beloved monarch, who passed away at the age of 96 on 8 September 2022 at her cherished Balmoral estate in Scotland, will be featured in Paddington in Peru, set to release on 8 November after a seven-year hiatus since Paddington 2.
The late Queen was known for her playful spirit when it came to participating in Hollywood antics – she even appeared alongside Daniel Craig in a James Bond sketch for the opening of the London Olympics in 2012. She also shared tea and a marmalade sandwich with a version of Paddington for a skit filmed for her 2022 Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
A snippet of this footage with the CGI bear will form her cameo in Paddington 3, starring The Crown actress Olivia Colman. Permission from Buckingham Palace was required to use the Paddington footage featuring the Queen, and the producer of Paddington 3 revealed that the Royal Family was “very happy for it to happen”.
Ron Halpern, head of global productions at Studiocanal, which is producing the bear film, told Variety that its use came “with the consent and agreement of the royal household”. Producer Rosie Alison added to the publication: “(The Royal Family) were actually very happy for it to happen. ” “But we don’t like to make a big deal of it, because Paddington’s obviously a very modest fellow.”
Olivia, 50, revealed she “signed without hesitation” to star in Paddington 3, reprising her role as the Reverend Mother. She gushed: “Paddington is just the best person in the whole wide world. Imagine if everyone was like Paddington – wouldn’t that be lovely? ” The film will see the beloved bear, brought to life by actor Ben Whishaw, 44, journeying abroad to visit Aunt Lucy in his native Peru.
