Did you know that Shah Rukh Khan never liked romantic movies? Yes, here’s what director Nikhil Advani has to say.
Happy birthday to King Khan, aka Shah Rukh Khan! The iconic actor who rules the hearts of millions turns 59 this year. Despite his age, SRK remains the king of hearts and the Bollywood world. We have seen Shah Rukh in various roles; however, one prominent role that we all love him to portray is that of a romantic hero. But did you know that SRK is not someone who particularly likes love stories? Yes, you read that right! This revelation was made by none other than Nikkhil Advani, who directed Ra. One with SRK and also worked as an assistant on Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
During a podcast with Cyrus Broacha on What Cyrus Says, Nikkhil mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan hates love stories. He revealed that SRK often looks for scripts that have more dramatic elements for his character rather than focusing solely on romance. Advani also shared another intriguing piece of trivia: despite being behind iconic romantic films and blockbusters such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Devdas, and Kal Ho Naa Ho, he does not consider any of these his favourite film. Instead, Advani stated, “Dil Se is his favourite film.”
About Dil Se
Helmed by Mani Ratnam, Dil Se did not perform well at the box office but became a huge success overseas. The movie gained SRK fame among European and American audiences. Although Shah Rukh Khan played a lover in the film, his character was not solely based on love and romance; he portrayed a flawed and relentless lover. The critical acclaim it received must have meant much more to the actor than the box office returns of some of his other films.
Dil Se’s lifetime collection stood at Rs 10.77 crore. Although it wasn’t a box office success upon release, Dil Se is now considered one of the most cherished films in India. The movie and its songs are regarded as cult classics.
Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Dil Se also featured Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta in key roles.
