This beautiful town was the inspiration for one of Disney’s most famous and successful animated films.
Riquewihr in France is where the village in Beauty and the Beast is based on – and it really does look like in the film.
Its colourful houses and quaint style make it the perfect place for a Disney setting, with many tourists travelling to the small area to see it for this reason.
Not only this but around the festive season, there is also a Christmas market which you can visit.
One visitor on Tripadvisor who visited Riquewihr said: “This is like walking into a storybook.
“We did a Christmas Market river cruise and this by far was our favourite town! Out of all the markets, this one took credit cards in some cases, in addition, it had different and unique items.
“After a while, a lot of the markets started to look alike. It’s historical and gorgeous at the same time. It’s a definite must if you haven’t been. People were coming from all over to visit this little place.”
Riquewihr is located in the Alsace region of France and is often seen as being the best village in the area.
If you plan to visit the area, you can’t miss seeing the Dolder Tower – a focal point which fascinates many visitors. To get there, it is best to fly to Strasbourg and from there it takes just under an hour by car to reach the village.
Many travellers to the area visit multiple villages in the Alsace reigion but this one is widely seen as the best.
A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Riquewihr is one of several beautiful Alsatian villages in the foothills of the Vosges near Colmar.
“The architecture is charming, and views over the vineyards around the town are superb. It’s a joy just to walk through the streets.
“The main street of Riquewihr was very crowded, even in September, and the shops are very tourist-oriented – we wandered off into side-streets and found that more relaxing.”
